Spa Manicure

The spa manicure begins with filing and shaping the nails, an aromatic salt scrub is then massaged into the hands, followed by a warm paraffin dip that soothes pain and stiffness in joints while softening the skin. Cuticles are treated, hands and arms are massaged with a fragrant cream. The treatment is finished with the polish color of your choice.

How often should I receive a manicure and pedicure?

A general rule of thumb is 4 weeks for a professional manicure and approximately 6 weeks for a professional pedicure.

A basic manicure or pedicure will last one to two weeks, depending on your lifestyle and the type of service you have had.  If, for example, you work in the garden without gloves, your manicure probably won’t last as long.  If you are hard on your polish you might consider trying Shellac.

You should give yourself a manicure once a week.  Your nails need filing every week and cuticles need to be pushed back at least once a week.  Applying serums, scrubs, masks once a week will help breakdown sluggish, dull and dead surface skin while simultaneously restoring moisture.

How do I file my nails?

File each nail tip from corner to center.  Do not file back and forth or in a ‘see-saw’ motion over the nail since that can cause ridges and splitting.  Also, don’t use a metal file since they are too rough on nails.

How should I shape my nails?

Nail shape should compliment your hand size and cuticle shape. Petite hands, for example, look best with long, rounded (almond-shaped) nails while heavy-set hands and wide nail beds look better with nails that are more squared-off. If the cuticle is oval then so should the nail tip, and likewise, square cuticles would look better with tips that are somewhat squared off at the tips.

Is it possible stop picking and biting my nails?

For people who have a tendency to bite or pick at their nails, there is a 90 percent success rate of stopping with artificial nail applications. There are two reasons for this:

*First, people are less likely to ruin something they’ve spent time and money on.
*Secondly, nail biters are generally inspired by having beautiful hands for the first time in their lives.

What is Shellac and is it for me?

Shellac is an acrylic gel nail polish that is painted straight onto the nail and dries hard like a fake nail.  Shellac is for people who want to maintain natural nails. The formulation looks as good from day 1 to day 14, but does not damage nail beds.

Typical nail polish dries by evaporation, which means your manicure is not cured until 2-3 hours after your service.  But Shellac is cured by UV light, and within minutes. Your nails are completely dry by the time your manicure is over, and strong enough to withstand accidental knocks. It acts like a plasticized coating, suitable as a long lasting polish.
